Lighting Analysis

  1. Identify examples of high and low-key lighting.
  2. Say which depict topback or under lighting.
  3. What effects are created by the lighting in each image?

From this tail-end image we can depict that one high key lighting would be the smoke luring around the image which gives more of the impression she is a dominant femme fatale. There is an example of low key lighting around the head area of the women which gives a glimpse of her clear cut eyes aiming write at the viewer.

I think a under lighting is being used to indicate the woman's presence in the picture can't be misconceived.

In contrast the lighting gives the audience a perception of mystery and uncertainty towards the woman as she can be viewed as having control.

1. In this picture there is high-key lighting which brings out the dominance in the man's appearance.

 2. There is also back lighting to give you a clearer understanding of the image as well as it makes the image seem more realistic to our society.

3. The effects we get from this image is because of the high key lighting we get a clearer image as viewers of the man's eyes which are essentially powerful and gives him capability.

1. This picture would be an example of low-key lighting, why it is used would be to bring out the mysterious features on the women's face.

2. This picture would display back lighting to bring out the characters superior authority and stern facial features.

3.  The effects created in the image would be his smug look would show a pretentious effect around his face.

the lighting used in this picture would be high key-lighting as due to the lighting being produced above her head. There is upper lighting has been employed to vaguely seen to explore the characters facial expression.

This image would display low key lighting to compact the shadow.  Also from the back lighting the characters expressions are revealed as eerie and mysterious which could symbolise her uncontrollable and vulnerable state.

The lighting in this image used is high key lighting as this implies the romance is being connected from one character to another as they are in a compassionate embrace. The light is realistic as it is coming from a natural source which allows the viewer to relate to this scene. The fact that it is quite enclosed and the lighting is dim links back to the romance of this scene,

This low key lighting suggests the gun is more brightly lit which could comply he is authorised to live by and die by holding the gun. More so from his facial features explain he has a stern personality and is living a criminal lifestyle. This can easily imply he is a protagonist by nature.

This image I would say depicts both high and low key lighting which creates a site of emphasis on the females face. The shadow on her neck emphasises on her prayer as her face is in the light and the contrast allows more focus on her face.

This is low key lighting and the use of under lighting too. This creates strong contrasts between the light and dark and emphasises on her facial features. There is a sense of worry on her face as shown from her facial expression, and this adds onto the atmosphere of the entire scene.

The lighting used in this image is backlighting which hides the identity of the people as their facial features arent visible.  This makes them seem mysterious as we are unaware about who they are. Their shadows are in front of them which is unusual as shadows are usually in the background which adds onto the mysteriousness of this image which is probably the aim of it.

Mise-en-scene

Match of the day

This show is called match of the day and it is based around a number of ex football players such as the great Newcastle striker and all time premier league top scorer Alan shearer and former Leicester and Barcelona striker and a true gentleman and presenter Gary Lineker. There are many other great players/actors but i do not want to go into to much detail about that. The setting is based in a studio which is also primarily used to film match of the day 2 and the football league show. This show is based around players/actors analyzing previous games shown earlier on in the day and giving there key thoughts/ideas on how well the teams or players have performed or if there is any level of improvement. One key prop in which the players/actors use is a visual screen to pick out players positions on the pitch and this technology gives viewers a better understanding and view of the players position weather its good or bad. This technology is better used by the sky sports panel of Gary Neville and Jamie Rednapp, but that shows that information technology is increasing year by year and is becoming frequently available on a regular basis.

young man employed by a Harlem dry cleaning shop about a young man who rises to the top of the cocaine industry in Harlem. This film mainly rose to success as though it may have been based around crime, drugs, sexual exploitation of women and violence it sent out a clear message to not trust anyone once successful, as the main character Ace found out the hard way as his best friend Mitch was killed by his other main associate Rico because of jealousy and greed to get to the top. This is reportedly based around a true story, and as sad as it may be, some people are driven by greed and hunger to to expand their own drug business.

This  film just like paid in full is also based around crime, drugs and betrayal, but tells six different stories. There is ex-dealer Kirby, who has just been released from prison, thug Ed who will stop at nothing to find his missing phone, troubled Michelle who is just looking for her next hit, young Jake who finds himself drawn to the local gang, Chris, who seeks revenge, Katya, who is desperately trying to escape this foreign land, and Aaron, our main protagonist who is just trying to do the right thing. In more meanings it gives a clear insight on the background of gritty London the media fail to expose ever since the distinguished London riots in which saw the government exposed to such a great length.

This film is based around a stock broker Jordan Belford who subsequently rose to the top of wall street through his company Stratton Oakmont and how his firm engaged in corruption and fraud. This film is essentially gripping as it is based around a true story, and shows the insights of his greed and his abuse of drugs which can be seen by viewers as upsetting. It mainly shows his downfall and how his actions result him putting his own values over his family, especially wife and daughter, which quite unexpectedly caused his wife to leave him as his drug abuse came to an overall high. Towards the end Jordan goes to jail for 36 months (3 years) and how he exposed all of his employees at Stratton Oakmont involved in the fraud scandal in which he makes $22 million in three hours upon securing the IPO of Steve Madden(who also went to prison or his part) just to avoid a substantial prison sentence.

film poster analysis

Image result for scary movie 2

As the supernatural extension of the first film, "Scary Movie 2" casts its satirical eye on such iconic classics as "The Exorcist" and "Poltergeist," as well as the more recent films "Hannibal," "What Lies Beneath" and "The House on Haunted Hill." In addition to all things supernatural, it lunges even further, taking on pulp icons including "Charlie's Angels" and "Mission Impossible 2." the expressions on the actors faces could suggest they are mocking drastically big films.More so the title 'scary movie' suggests the movie may not be scary as if it was scary the cover would have more of a demeaning look to it not a comedic look.

Deckard (Harrison Ford) is forced by the police Boss (M. Emmet Walsh) to continue his old job as Replicant Hunter. His assignment: eliminate four escaped Replicants from the colonies who have returned to Earth. Before starting the job, Deckard goes to the Tyrell Corporation and he meets Rachel (Sean Young), a Replicant girl he falls in love with. What we get from the woman smoking a cigarette is that she may be the protagonists main love interest and she is a laid back femme fatale. The use of lighting suggests it is a sci-fi genre movie.

Image result for i'm not scared

The central image is of a boy who has facial expressions which could suggest a sense of enigma and mystery as his facial expressions could link to the title 'i'm not scared' which could may give the viewers an idea that he has fears of going into the whole as he may dread going near that whole. The film title could give the idea the film may be a horror or even a thriller.

Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) is a veteran Los Angeles boxing trainer who keeps almost everyone at arm's length, except his old friend and associate Eddie "Scrap Iron" Dupris (Morgan Freeman). When Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) arrives in Frankie's gym seeking his expertise, he is unwilling to train the young woman, a transplant from working-class Missouri. The idea we get just from the plot could suggest Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) is the main protagonist of the film and she may have her eyes set on future success in the boxing industry. This movie may be a sports drama as it may tell the back story on how hard she worked to be a successful boxer.

Image result for bride and prejudice

The colour scheme could imply this is centered around a marriage about a boy and a girl from different backgrounds (one from hollywood and one from bollywood) and from the characters facial expressions it may suggest it may be a romantic comedy.
Image result for uzak

This movie is an art house movie as it is shown in many different countries. The dull background could imply it may be a serious film with a message and a meaning behind it and the reason the central character may not be showing his face may be he is looking into his future and it shows no hope.

Image result for pirates of the caribbean dead man's chest

From the central image we may suggest it is an adventure/ action movie. Our theory is made more clear by the wrecked ship in the image and the protagonist (Johnny Depp) holding a gun in his hand. We could as viewers get the idea from the sub title 'dead man's chest' that the characters could be going through an adventure to try an retrieve the chest from the antagonists clutches.

Image result for sin city

I think the film is based around a criminal thriller. Just from the central image, we can connote from the characters facial expressions that he may be the main protagonist. In contrast we can conclude there will be a sheer amount of violence in this film.
